The Human Touch

Making Art | Leaving Traces

The trace of touch

This print is from a set of six, made around 1954 when Frank Auerbach was a student at London’s Royal College of Art. The artist used a nail to scratch the lines and printed the images by rubbing the back of the paper with a spoon. The set was never formally editioned; its immediate and experimental nature is apparent from the fingerprints on the sheet’s edges.
